We all knew it was only a matter of time, but now it’s all but official: Brett Favre will soon be back with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2010-11 season.

A few moments ago, Favre emerged from an airplane in Minnesota with the intention of making some sort of announcement regarding his future. Earlier three of his Vikings teammates (Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell) skipped practice to travel to Favre’s Mississippi home to recruit him. With his teammates urging him on, both NFL Network and Fox Sports have reported that Favre is returning for next season.

Earlier in the day, Favre’s official website sent out an e-mail saying, “Stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre’s possible return.”

Though both the Vikings and Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, have not confirmed anything, a return appears imminent. This entire circus act is coming exactly one year after Favre announced that he would come back from his second retirement, and sign with the Vikings.

Last season Favre ended his year on an interception that prevented the Vikings from going to the Super Bowl. Instead, the costly mistake gave the New Orleans Saints a chance at the big game, which they subsequently won. After the season, Favre said he could not commit to another season with the team until he and his body could endure it.
